Maltby Miners Memorial Community Group
About us
Maltby Miners Memorial Community Group started with two men sat in a local pub discussing the pit and its history and how to preserve its memory at the same time a young local lad was thinking about what he could do to keep the memory of the local pit alive, by chance these men came together at a council meeting and put the idea across of forming a group to erect an everlasting memorial to all who worked at Maltby Colliery.
The group formed as an official group in 2014, the group comprises of men and women from different walks of life, either they or family members worked at Maltby pit,
The groups aim is ultimately to build a lasting memorial to all who worked at Maltby Colliery and maintain it for future generations to show the generations born after the closure of the pit in 2013 what their heritage is, and how Maltby developed from a small farming village to a small town.
The group are also in the process of writing a book to be placed in local schools and libraries about Maltby Colliery and its community we are also setting up workshops in schools and community groups etc.
The group are continually pooling ideas for furthering teaching the future generations about the colliery and raising funds to achieve their aims.
